Alistair - My Heart

The real God and the real us

I care deeply about knowing God as He is and being the me He made me to be.

That I think is what has been at the heart of every bit of youth work I ever did, every school class I ever taught, any sermon I’ve preached, group I’ve led or ministry thing I’ve every tried to do.

I think the most healthy, most free, most alive people out there are the ones who are pursuing the very heart of God and just simply trying to be themselves as He intended - not some other version of themselves rooted in the culture or demands of the future of the day. But them, the real them, before Jesus.

God said all the prophets and law were summed up in two commandments. Love God with everything in you. Love people as you love yourself. That’s as complicated as I want to get. That’s what I’m trying to chase.

Alistair - Where I’ve Come From

I grew up in the High Anglican tradition, then went through the youth ministry of a Church of England village church, then spent my twenties in the Vineyard network, and now I am a pastor of a charismatic church in London UK. So I’ve seen the church and the kingdom in a few different forms. In all its forms I have found the person and presence of God. I’ve also found that every church regardless of denomination or background needs the Saviour Jesus, needs the Holy Spirit and needs Father God. I’ve also found that no church can survive without healthy community, the hunger for that is in my DNA.

I taught in schools as Primary School Teacher for 10 years both in central London and out in the rural countryside. Teaching children and shepherding them over the years was a God-given education for me in pastoring. I have been in Christian ministry in voluntary, part time and full time roles for the past 20 years. I wrote my first book in 2021, ‘The Road to the Father’s House’.

I’ve spent time on the mission field, learning and teaching in schools of ministry, doing worship and travelling. My friends would probably say I spend most of my time listening to podcasts, going for walks or watching movies. They are probably right.

Abbi and I have two beautiful boys (as of Sept 2022), Alexander and Aiden, and so most of our time is currently spent playing with them, feeding them, cleaning up after them and dreaming of one day going to sleep at a reasonable hour and sleeping straight through until morning.

Our family recently moved to sunny North Dakota, USA, where we lead Encounter Church, a small but wonderfully real family of people hungering for the presence of God.

  Abbi - My Heart

My heart for all is firstly to know we can hear can hear the Father’s voice, and that ultimately all of life’s questions, problems and trials find their answers, solutions and resolutions in Jesus. He is the source of all life, which is but the blink of an eye, whereas the life to come will be eternal (2 Corinthians 4:16-18).  My burden is for people (including me!) to truly understand this - that ‘reality’ is a shadow of what is to come (Colossians 2:17) and eternity is real, for when we do, we will step out in greater acts of boldness and faith.

Combing the above burdens, my hope is to encourage people to the following actions:

  1. Spending regular time in the ‘secret place’

  2. Engaging with Government - Especially to advocate for the unborn and vulnerable in our society

Regarding the ability to hear God’s voice and spending time in the Secret place, I personally began this journey as a child as I was raised in a Christian home. However, I received my greatest revelations about hearing God’s voice when I was in my early twenties attending a little suburban church called New Life. The Pastors, Peg and Jay Snyder, led me on a journey of going deep in God. It was there I learned how to hear God’s voice (based largely on the teaching from Mark and Patti Virkler, “The 4 Keys to Hearing God’s Voice”). It was there I learned about and received my first inner healing, first spoke in tongues, was activated in the prophetic and began believing for and seeing ‘in the moment’ healings (praying for someone to be healed, and then seeing an immediate healing/ improvement).

In sum, my three focuses for seeing the above achieved are:

  • Prayer (the secret place)

  • Awareness

  • Action

Abbi - Where I’ve Come From

As an undergraduate student I studied Political Science and History at the University of Minnesota, where I also earned a master’s degree in Public Policy. At age 26 I was elected to the Minnesota State House of Representatives, where I was honoured to serve two terms (the second while doing long distance dating with Alistair), exiting elected office in 2018.  My primary focuses as a legislator were life issues (fighting for the unborn), combating sex-trafficking, and advocating for a fairer property tax system.

Upon moving to the UK I spent 10 months working for Safe International (formerly the Kenyan Children’s Project), a charity that helps "rescue, rehabilitate and reintegrate” vulnerable and at-risk children in Western Kenya. I then worked to advance the pro-life cause in the UK to advance the pro life cause in the UK. Alongside this, I co-led a once a month prayer and action group, “Made In His Image”.

I love traveling, running and most of all reading. My husband and all who know me would say I can usually be found on a weekday evening curled up on the sofa with a blanket and my current favorite book.

I also recently became a mother - the greatest privilege, joy and challenge of my life. I love my children (Alexander Gabriel, Aiden Joshua James and Ezri Elizabeth) more than words can say and will keep fighting for this world to be a better place for them to grow up in.

Alistair & Abbi - The Bizarre Story of How We Met

In 2015 Alistair went to Ireland to help a school of ministry run for a week. While there he met a couple of pastors (Jay and Peg Snyder) from Minnesota and the three of them struck up a friendship. About a year or so later Jay and Peg invited Alistair to come on a mission trip to Nicaragua with them, which Alistair enthusiastically said yes to. Alistair flew out to the States, spent a night with Jay and Peg and the young adults from their church (including a pretty girl called Abigail) and then the next day made his way with the other missionaries to the airport to fly out for to Nicaragua.

Once at the airport Alistair was told he had less than 6 months to run on his passport and the Nicaraguan authorities wouldn’t let him into the country. To cut a long story short, Alistair ended up staying in Minnesota for the whole two weeks he was meant to be on the trip.

God was all over it though, as Alistair and Abbi got to know each other during this unexpected time and realised there was something there.

3 years later they were married. By Jay.

And the why for this website…

Abbi is a prayer warrior, advocate for life (from conception to natural death) and mother.

Alistair is a pastor, teacher, pioneer and father.

These two sets of traits don’t necessarily bleed together... but somehow in it all the Lord had a plan and made it work.
